Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of a man fatally shot by sheriff's deputies during an attempted burglary early Friday morning.
Watts says an autopsy shows 33-year-old Eddie Hollins of Columbia died from complications related to gunshot wounds.
Sheriff's deputies say about 3:30 a.m., a pickup was driven through the glass front of Columbia Powersports on Two Notch Road.
The motorcycle center was under surveillance because of a series of recent burglaries at similar businesses, and officers apprehended one suspect, 43-year-old James Branch.
But they say Hollins jumped into the truck and took off, aiming toward deputies and running over his accomplice.
Officers shot Hollins in his vehicle, but before his death, he was able to continue about a mile along Two Notch Road until he crashed into Bakers Sports Pub and Grill.
Branch was last reported in critical condition at an area hospital.
