USC Men and Women In Sweet 16

The Gamecock men stunned Duke, 88-81 last night in Greenville to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the NCAA tournament field expanded to 64 or more. Carolina stormed back in the second half, outscoring the Blue Devils 65-51 after the break.

Sindarius thornwell had 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Carolina.

The gamecocks now move on to Madison Square Garden for a showdown with 3 seed Baylor Friday night at 7:29.

And Sunday was doubly sweet for South Carolina hoops fans as the women also moved on. Dawn Staley's squad made the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight time, rallying to beat Arizona State, 71-68.

Staley's squad couldn't celebrate until A’ja Wilson's putback with 48 seconds left gave Carolina a lead after the Gamecocks trailed by as many as 11 in the 2nd half.

Wilson finished with a game-high 21 points and grabbed 11 boards. Guard Kaela Davis scored 20 points. Carolina heads to Stockton, California for a Saturday matchup against the winner of tonight's Quinnipiac-Miami game.
