Gas Tax Hits Roadblock in Senate

Legislation to fund repairs to the state's roadways hit a giant pothole, when 18 Republican Senators voted down starting the debate on the measure.

They say they are against supporting a straight road tax, their actions may kill passing a bill to pass a gas tax for a third year.

The plan would raise the state's gas tax by 12 cents a gallon and hike other fees, to hopefully generate some $800 million dollars per year.

DOT has already said it needs a minimum of $1 billion a year to maintain the state's roadways; any less, and they won't be able to apply the services necessary.
