Storms Cause Numerous Problems Across The Midlands

Severe thunderstorms dumped several inches of rain across the Midlands yesterday and the subsequent flooding led to evacuations in one downtown area.

The Columbia Police Department assisted Columbia Fire Department responders in pulling residents to safety near Read Street. The fire department responded to more than 100 weather related calls in a 4-hour time frame.

Police also reported parts of Five Points, and the Vista, were under water. Much of Columbia received 2 to3 inches of rain.

Richland, and Lexington Counties reported 1 to 2 inches of precipitation.

Storm-related power outages affected almost 2200-hundred SCE&G customers in Richland and Lexington Counties and some parts of USC lost power.

The Columbia Fire Department rescued two people who were trapped in an elevator on campus.
