State lawmakers are still disagreeing on how to pay for the repairs of deteriorating roads in South Carolina.
The Senate continued debate Tuesday about raising the gas tax by twelve-cents over the next six years. The proposed legislation would increase the tax by two-cents per gallon each year.
A new amendment added to the bill would allow residents to save gas receipts and file them on their income taxes for a credit. Senators voted down an amendment that would shut down the state's infrastructure bank, which finances major highway projects.
Senator Tom Davis says he wants the money to go somewhere that can address the needs of the citizens.
Some senators have accused the state infrastructure bank of misspending in the past.
