Is Congaree National Park Snake Story A Hoax?

Park officials at Congaree National Park are trying to figure out if a report of someone releasing a boa constrictor in the park on Sunday is true.

The report was shared on the park's Facebook page. They haven't produced any written report and don't know the name of the person who reported it. Some people criticized the park for posting the information if they didn't know if it was accurate.

The park says it was posted as a request for people to report something if they saw it and if it has been released, the snake poses no real threat to humans. It is illegal to release exotic animals in the park because they threaten the natural habitats.

Officials say if the snake isn't found by next winter, cold temperatures would likely kill it.
