Carolina Water Service Rate Hike Overturned

(Columbia, SC) -- A utility company won't be able to make its customers pay for its legal problems.

The state Public Service Commission announced yesterday that Carolina Water Service cannot raise its rates to recover money for litigation costs due to releasing sewage into the Saluda River.

The ruling by the PSC reverses its earlier ruling seven months ago that led to the rate hikes.

Customers won't save much, though, as the average increase was 68 cents a month.
