South Carolina Residents Age 70 & Older Can Schedule Vaccine Appointments

(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina residents age 70 and older can start scheduling their appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine this week. Regardless of health status or pre-existing conditions, those in the eligible age bracket can begin making appointments tomorrow.

There are over 627,000 residents in South Carolina who are 70 or older, but some may have already been vaccinated under Phase 1A eligibility. DHEC says vaccination is crucial for this age group as over 67% of the COVID-19 deaths in the state have been in those 70 and older.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 2,644 new cases yesterday. Yesterday's case numbers are believed to be low due to an internal systems issue. Any missing case numbers will be reported once that issue is fixed.
