Federal Judge To Rule On Fetal Heartbeat Law

(Columbia, SC) -- A federal judge is expected to rule soon on an injunction blocking a new abortion law in South Carolina.

In a hearing yesterday afternoon, Judge Lewis said she wants to determine if Governor McMaster and state House Speaker Jay Lucas will be allowed to be part of the legal battle.

Right now a temporary restraining order stops the abortion law from being enforced through March 19th.

If it goes into effect, it would punish doctors who perform an abortion once a fetal heartbeat had been detected with up to two years in jail or a 10-thousand-dollar fine.
