South Carolina Supreme Court Considering Constitutionality Of Heritage Act

(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina Supreme Court will consider whether or not the state's Heritage Act is constitutional.

The law enacted in 2000 prohibits memorials for historic figures or events from being removed from public property without two-thirds of the state legislature's approval.

Governor McMaster continues his support for the measure, saying it "preserves monuments while allowing South Carolinians to voice their concerns through their elected representatives."

The South Carolina Supreme Court is hearing the case as several communities want to change monuments or names of certain buildings.
