Abortion Ban Bill Sent Back To South Carolina Senate

(Columbia, SC) - A bill banning most abortions in South Carolina is being sent back to the Senate.

The state's House of Representatives voted in favor of House Bill 5399 in August, which prohibits all abortion except if the mother's life is at risk or in cases of rape and incest up to 12 weeks.

The Senate then voted this month to further restrict those exceptions to up to 12 weeks if the mother's life is at risk and up to six weeks for rape and incest.

After debating those changes Tuesday, the House voted 95 to 11 to send the measure back to the Senate.
