Hospital Approval Repeal Law Heads To Governor’s Desk

(Columbia, SC) - A bill is heading to Governor McMaster's desk that would repeal a decades-old law that requires hospitals to get state permission to build or expand a hospital.

The Healthcare Facility Licensure Act would get rid of that process, which allows existing healthcare providers to potentially block plans for new hospitals from being approved.

The South Carolina Senate advanced the measure earlier this year, and the House of Representatives approved an amended version of the bill this week.

It now awaits a signature from the governor in order to become law.
