The left is pushing hard for gay marriage.  When President Obama was first elected in 08 the left was upset that he said marriage "is a union between a man and a woman and for me as a Christian it is a sacred union because God is in the mix". The President said he was for civil unions that would give gay couples all the benefits married people have.

As you know his position "evolved" since then, so now he is for gay marriage. To frame this in it's proper perspective, the President of the United States told the left he was going to make changes to our federal laws which would give gay couples the same tax breaks, the same hospital visitation rights, whatever rights or benefits a heterosexual union had, would be exactly the same for a homosexual union. But gay union's wouldn't be called marriage because that implied "God was in the mix". The left was outraged. Because the words civil union don't have the same prestige as the word marriage. All unions must be seen as equal!

So they want the prestige of God being in their mix. Just to be crystal clear about this, the word marriage isn't about the gay couple, but rather the way others look at them. If the law says they're married then their union is the same as everybody elses. If it was called a civil union, it would be lesser than because society didn't recognize God as being part of their union.

Contrast that with the left fighting religion at every turn in society. It's been in all the headlines the past few weeks. Santa Monica has had to cancel their nativity scene because they were sued over promoting religion. In NC, a Western Piedmont Community College student group placed an ad in the school paper to promote a Christmas tree sale. The word Christmas was changed to Holiday so as to not promote religion. And it's not just Christmas. For Veteran's Day in NC at an elementary school in West Marion, a first grader had her poem changed by the teacher because it had the word God in it.  Her poem was about her grandfather and she wrote "He prayed to God for strength, and he prayed to God for peace". The Board of Education President Ken Paulson said that because the poem was to be read to a captive audience on school property the school had to remove the word God to separate church and state. And who will ever forget that embarrassing scene at the Democratic National Convention when former Ohio Governor and ordained Methodist Minister, Ted Strickland attempted to amend the party's platform to say "faith in God is central to the American story and informs the values we express in our party's platform". The party obviously denied God 3 times (kinda like Peter) before the convention chairman L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa flat out lied and said that in his opinion 2/3rd of the people had voted to put God back in to the platform.

It's time for the Democrats to make a choice. You can either be for Gay Marriage or you can be against religion in the public square. But you can't be for both. That's like a prohibitionist demanding the right to be served. Personally, I would like to see your party decide they are for Gay Marriage. Because you are right that your union is lesser than without God in the mix. And anytime someone wants a relationship with God I believe that's a great thing. And it ultimately doesn't matter what other people think of your relationship with God or your relationship with each other. That's for you guys...or gals to work out.
