In 2008 CNN examined Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's voting record as Senators. This was as Democrats were getting ready to decide who would represent them in the Presidential election. Hillary should have been their pick. Democrats told pollsters they were concerned about nominating someone too liberal and without enough experience. CNN demonstrated that Obama had the most liberal voting record in the Senate. Clinton's was 16th and the year before that she was 34th. In other words the fact is Clinton was the moderate and Obama was the liberal. Clinton had been a Senator since 2001 and Obama had been on the job 2 1/2 years. Yet Obama used his words to convince voters that Hillary was too liberal and inexperienced to be President.
No matter how you feel about our President you have to admit the man can manipulate!
Most everyone agrees that Syria is a disaster. Let's not debate how we got in this situation, but it's obvious that the U.S. has to do something now. The President gave us a red line in the sand, by declaring that if we discovered Syria was using chemical weapons then that would be "a red line in the sand", which would be "a game changer". In other words we would do something about it! We discovered that there were chemical weapons being used as hundreds of rebels were shown dying from their use on Television. But Obama said he wasn't sure that the regime was using them against the rebels. The President doesn't want to get involved in Syria and just wants it to go away. But last Thursday the announcement was made that there was overwhelming proof Al-assad was the man ordering their use against the rebels.
So what should we do? The rebels are apparently infiltrated with thousands of al-Qaeda fighters.
Do we provide al-Qaeda fighters with weapons, or even worse, fight with them against Al-assad? If we do nothing then America has lost all credibility and other nations will begin to challenge us on other things we said we would not tolerate.
But al-Qaeda is this awesome ground fighting force that took out the Russian military in Afghanistan. And if you saw Charlie Wilson's War you know we helped al-Qaeda win that war.
So now Russia is looking for revenge by backing Al-assad and we can either help al-Qaeda again, now knowing they will kill us if given the chance, or let Russia give the impression to the world that we backed down from a fight with them! We're in a lose-lose situation! Putin holds 4 aces and a checkmate! But all is not lost yet.
Today our President is at the G-8 summit in Ireland. He will have a chance at some point to meet one on with Putin. They have been conveniently placed in cottages next door to each other. Obama's approval rating has dropped 8 points in the past month with most of that coming from the 30 and under crowd. He could turn things around if he is able to talk Putin out of continuing to back of Al-assad. If Russia turned their back on Syria the al-Qaeda rebels would win. The U.S. would remain trustworthy to the world be demonstrating that when we say something you can't go against it. And we would have done it without arming or fighting alongside al-Qaeda. Now how does Obama get Putin to see things his way? I have no idea! But convincing people to go for things not in their best interest is how he got elected twice! Now let's hope he can use that slick talk to do some good!
