Yesterday the FBI arrested 21 year old William Gibson and 20 year old Andrea Bostic in Columbia as part of a national sting on child sex trafficking.
The arrests happened on one of Columbia's busiest roads, Two Notch, at the Quality Inn. The national raid saved 105 children and sent 150 traffickers to jail. So yes it happens under our nose. And this is surly just the tip of the iceberg of what is happening here in the capital city.
Here are some shocking statistics. The Dept of Justice estimates there are 300,000 teens in America who are currently victims of sex trafficking. The average age is 14. One out of every 3 runaways will be forced into prostitution, usually within 48 hours of leaving home. Victims are forced to have sex with 20-40 strangers a day. It's a 9.5 billion dollar industry in America alone!
Former victims often become abusers themselves. It wouldn't be surprising to find out that Andrea Bostic was herself forced into prostitution. The circle of abuse continues and is passed on year after year.
If you are a victim or believe someone you've seen is a victim of trafficking call the FBI hotline 888-373-7888. There's more info on the FBI site.
If you use prostitutes, you need help yourself. Please get counselling. You will be doing yourself a world of good and helping to dry up the demand for prostitutes will save some teens from being abducted.
