The headlines across S.C. herald premiums in our state with Obamacare are 16% lower than expected! I am always shocked when people fall for this slight of hand trick. Let me see if I can break it down in a way that a child would understand.
You do your chores and get 10 dollars at the end of the week. We take away 3 for "taxes" and then we take 2 for rent. You haven't been going to the doctor because your young and healthy. Of course there are minor medical things and that has cost you 2 or 3 dollars a year. But now we, your parents, have decided you are to have health insurance. The more healthy people buy insurance, the lower the rates will go because there's more money in the insurance pot to cover the seriously sick people. This will lower my rates of course, but now you will have to pitch in an extra dollar a week. So instead of the 2 or 3 dollars a year it has cost you, you now have to pay 52. You say 'this is an outrage. I don't need health insurance right now'. I say but it's now the law. We your parents have passed a law that you had no say in that says you need insurance. You argue that we are only forcing you to get insurance in order to help ourselves to your money. As your head is about to explode we respond 'oh wait...this plan is going to work better than we thought. Now we only need $45 a year'.
If you are a simpleton with the memory of a gnat you think 'awesome I'm saving some big bucks'. But any rational person would say 'it's highway robbery. You are forcing me to buy something I don't need or want only to take my money for your good'. Until Obamacare is repealed, the law of the land is to steal from healthy young people under the guise of helping them.
