This is Cpl Josh Hargis from Cincinatti OH. He serves our nation in the 3rd Ranger Battalion, based in Fort Benning GA. This picture was taken hours after he underwent extensive surgery in a military hospital in Afghanistan. He was in surgery because a suicide bomber attacked his team, killing four of his comrades. His commanding officer came to his room to present Josh with the Medal Of Honor.
Wearing a neck brace, breathing apparatus, and with tubes coming out of him, Josh even struggled with a doctor who tried to stop him from moving. Josh wouldn't stop till he had completed his salute.
His Commander sent this picture along with a note to Josh's wife. Here's the last few lines.
Grown men began to weep and we were speechless at a gesture that spoke volumes about Josh's courage and character. The picture, which we believe belongs on every news channel and every news paper is attached. I have it hanging above my desk now and will remember it as the single greatest event I have witnessed in my ten years in the Army.
We agree and wanted to share it so every American can see the caliber of people we are blessed to have fighting on our behalf. May God bless Josh and all the fighting forces of the United States of America and their families.
Here's Josh and Taylor before the attack. We can never thank you enough for your sacrifice and hope the smiles return to your faces soon. Taylor says she spoke to Josh via phone and can tell from his voice that he is going to be fine. She added "If you want to know the meaning of strong, it's an Army Ranger".
