Lexington County authorities are searching for a man accused of using a box cutter in an attempt to kill his wife.
Arrest warrants allege that 35-year-old James Shawver assaulted 28-year-old Kristen Shawver Thursday night at their home in the 100 block of Tamara Lane near Gaston.
Sheriff James Metts says during an argument, Shawver cut his wife on her arms inside the home. Metts says when the woman ran outside, Shawver followed and dragged the victim by her hair into a wooded area where he stated he intended to kill her.
She managed to get away, but Metts says Shawver caught up with her again and stabbed her in the neck with the box cutter, dragged her to the couple's car and forced her to ride with him.
As the car traveled along Tamara Lane, Kristen Shawver jumped from the vehicle and sought help at a neighbor's home.
The sheriff says she was taken to the hospital in serious condition after suffering more than 20 wounds to her arms, head and neck.
Deputies later recovered the car in a ditch near Swansea and say they found a box cutter inside and blood in and on the vehicle.
James Shawver is wanted on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.
Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact The Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or Crimestoppers at (888) CRIME-SC.
