COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WVOC) - This year marks the 10th anniversary of a South Carolina task force that helps keep children safe from Internet predators.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, comprised of prosecutors and representatives from law enforcement agencies across the state, works to hunt down and prosecute people accused of soliciting sex from youngsters online.
In the past decade, the task force has arrested more than 370 suspects, and so far, more than 240 have been convicted.
State Attorney General Alan Wilson says the Internet can be a dangerous place if children don't know the risks of communicating with strangers in chat rooms and through messaging programs.
He says parents and educators need to be alert for problems, too.
