With our busy schedules and sometimes long work days, it's often hard to fit in even moderate exercise.
So when you go to work this Thursday, you're being asked to bring some comfortable walking shoes.
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is hosting its annual National Walk at Lunch Day.
Spokesman Adam Myrick says you may underestimate the health benefits of taking a walk for just 30 minutes each day.
“Being a tool to manage weight, strengthening muscles, reducing stress...it even has some benefit when it comes to lowering the risk of some chronic conditions,” Myrick says.
BlueCross BlueShield will hold a community walk at the Statehouse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
And even if you can't make that, Myrick encourages you to walk during your lunch break wherever you are – Thursday and beyond.
“We hope people will make it the start of a commitment to walk every day and rather than tack it on the end of your day and fit it in maybe at the beginning, we think if you can work it into the middle of the day, it will provide you an opportunity to get out and get active.”
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will provide free planning guides and print-ready files for banners, fliers and other promotional materials to help any South Carolina company organize a workplace walk.
