Senior Resources and United Way volunteers are sponsoring a food drive for Meals on Wheels pet owners on Friday morning.
The effort collects donations of dry dog food to be given to participants in the Meals on Wheels program who have pets also in need.
Annie Eveleigh with Senior Resources tells WVOC, “About six years ago we noticed that the seniors were sharing their Meals on Wheels with their pets and so we wanted to provide the food for the seniors, but we also wanted to provide it for the pets. So we started the pet food program.”
Eveleigh says through the donations, the agency is able to help feed about 45 pets each month belonging to Meals on Wheels clients.
Anyone wishing to donate dog food can drop it off at the Senior Resources Administration Building in the 2800 block of Millwood Avenue in Columbia, from 9 a.m. until noon.
“We are looking for unopened dry dog food, bags 20 pounds or smaller,” Eveleigh says.
And if you can't make this special food drive, your donations are also welcome weekdays between 8:30 and 4:30.
