A Lexington County man has been arrested after authorities say he intentionally burned two children with a cooking utensil.
36-year-old Nimesh Patel of Lexington is charged with two counts of child abuse after an incident the evening of April 18th.
“The arrest alleges that Patel abused two different children by heating up the handle of a metal cooking utensil and then placing the heated end of the cooking utensil against the bare skin of the children,” says Sheriff's Department spokesman Eric Murrah.
“He indicated to investigators that he did that to the children as a form of discipline for their poor behavior.”
Murrah says the children suffered burns, scarring and disfigurement of the skin.
Patel faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about other possible criminal activity involving Patel to contact the Sheriff's Department or Crimestoppers.
