The state Department of Public Safety goes under the magnifying glass this week as the agency seeks re-accreditation.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies or CALEA will begin an on-site assessment to review written materials, interview individuals and visit the department's facilities.
CALEA assessors will check to ensure DPS is complying with professional standards in policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, the public is invited to offer comments on the agency's ability to meet standards.
That can be done Monday afternoon between the hours of 1 and 3 o'clock by calling 1-800-868-3613, or by mailing written comments to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
