This past weekend was a deadly contrast to the previous one as far as safety on South Carolina roads.
The state Department of Public Safety says there were at least eight traffic fatalities, including one motorcyclist.
That compares to zero highway deaths the prior weekend.
But for the year as a whole so far, the state is doing considerably better than last year.
As of midnight Sunday, our state had 196 traffic fatalities so far this year, or 62 fewer than at the same time last year.
