Howard Jackson was picked last night to be the new director of the Richland County Election Commission.
Following a closed door meeting with Jackson the four-person Elections & Voter Registration Commission chose the Orangeburg County elections director to take the helm of the $1.2 million office with Elaine Dubose casting the only “no” vote.
Jackson was the only candidate left for the job, after two other finalists dropped out.
He had been accused of voting irregularities while on the job in Orangeburg County, but was cleared of any wrongdoing following a SLED investigation.
However, Jackson did not divulge that information in initial interviews with the board.
