A Richland County Sheriff's deputy has been fired and charged with misconduct in office, as well as criminal sexual conduct.
31-year-old Tracy Stephens arrested a woman about 2:30 the morning of May 15th for DUI, driving under suspension, and simple possession of marijuana.
But the woman later filed a complaint with the Sheriff's Department, alleging that Stephens forced her to expose and touch herself inappropriately, and she says the deputy offered to help her with the charges she faced if she'd comply with his requests.
Sheriff's Captain Chris Cowan says after an investigation by the department's Internal Affairs Division, Stephens was terminated and now faces charges of his own.
“Our personnel, both sworn and non-sworn, work extremely hard to be professional, to be pro-active and to be effective in our communities...and this type of behavior does not represent what our people do every single day here in Richland County,” Cowan says.
Stephens had worked with the Sheriff's Department for 18 months.
