A Columbia teen scheduled to graduate from Spring Valley High School next week now has a terrible tragedy overshadowing what should have been a time of celebration.
Authorities say 18-year-old Cameron Stringfellow was driving in the 400 block of Shallow Brook Drive about 2 a.m. Friday when his vehicle struck a parked car, then ran off the road and hit trees in a subdivision.
The Highway Patrol says Stringfellow and two others in the car were wearing seat belts.
But Stringfellow's 16-year-old brother Cory, in the backseat, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Another passenger, 18-year-old Wesley Thompson, sustained minor injuries.
Authorities say the driver was intoxicated, and Cameron Stringfellow is now facing a felony DUI charge in that mishap.
