Police are trying to find and identify two people they say observed a mysterious hit-and-run incident Saturday night in Forest Acres.
44-year-old Charles Brown was found in the street near the intersection of Two Notch Road and Pinebelt Road just after 10 p.m. He was taken to the hospital but died in surgery.
An autopsy concludes Brown had been struck by a vehicle, and Lieutenant Bryant Hinson says police would like to talk with two witnesses.
“Speaking with individuals in the area, we've determined that there was a gentleman on a bicycle,” Hinson tells WVOC. “He was a black male, 40-to-50 years of age with a backpack.
“He allegedly saw this, began yelling, said things to several people who were out there. However, we do not know the individual's name. There's also a white female who we've been told is a homeless person in the area who also witnessed this.”
Hinson also says a person of interest has been developed in the case, but no name has been released yet.
It's thought the vehicle involved has front-end damage and may have been in the Gaston or Swansea area in the days following the hit-and-run.
Anyone with information on any of this is asked to contact Forest Acres police or Crimestoppers.
