According to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Palmetto State has one of the fastest growing economies in the U.S. and one of the fastest growing manufacturing sectors in the region and nation.
South Carolina's economy is ranked as the 12th fastest growing in the country, tied with North Carolina as the fastest growing state on the East Coast.
And our state has the fastest growing manufacturing gross domestic product on the East Coast – the market value of the final goods and services produced in a region.
The U.S. has seen growth in its manufacturing sector for three straight years, as has South Carolina. That rate here last year was 8.5%, compared to the 7.8% U.S. rate.
The state Department of Commerce says during the last few years, South Carolina has also seen increases in worker productivity, which helps to recruit new business investment to the state.
