ELGIN, S.C. (AP/WVOC) - Kershaw County authorities say an autistic teenager drowned in a swimming pool near the school where he lived.
Sheriff Jim Matthews says 15-year-old Daven Williams was reported missing from Pine Grove school about 5:30 a.m. Friday.
Around that time, deputies also received a call about a burglary at a home near the residential school in Elgin for students with developmental disabilities.
The resident discovered the teen's body in a swimming pool about six hours later. Matthews says one of his deputies searched the pool area hours earlier.
The teen had climbed over a chain-link fence. The school reported him missing after a door alarm indicated he'd walked away.
Officers from several area departments as well as the State Law Enforcement Division had been searching for him.
