An Elloree man has been hospitalized after he was shot by a deputy Friday morning during a domestic violence call.
Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers says officers went to a home along Pickett Level Road to check out a report of a domestic dispute and 31-year-old Lester Rickenbacker came out with a knife in each hand.
The sheriff says the man first threatened the deputies, then attacked and was shot in the abdomen by an officer.
Rickenbacker will be charged with attempted murder.
The State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the incident, which is standard procedure, but Summers feels his deputy responded appropriately by shooting the assailant.
