Authorities have released the name of a teenager who drowned in Lake Murray Sunday.
The Saluda County Coroner's Office says four teens on a pontoon boat were returning to the public boat landing on Riverbend Point in Saluda.
Two of the boys decided to swim to shore and jumped off the boat about 4:45 p.m.
But the coroner says after swimming a short distance, the boys encountered some unknown problem and called for help.
One boy caught a life jacket that was thrown, but was not able to help 17-year-old Waeland Peeples, who went under water.
Dive teams from Newberry and Union counties responded to the scene and recovered his body a short time later.
Peeples was said to be a good swimmer.
Officials say Peeples' parents are in the military and both are on their way home from Afghanistan.
