Columbia police have released the name of a suspect in the dragging death of a man Sunday night in the Earlewood neighborhood.
Investigators believe 29-year-old Dany Zuniga-Torres drove the minivan that killed 53-year-old Calvin Smith.
Smith and another man were fighting over a cell phone, and witnesses say a third man tried to break it up, then drove off in a blue or silver Dodge minivan towing an enclosed white trailer.
But police say the two men who were arguing got caught between the back of the minivan and the front of the trailer and were dragged along.
One man was able to get free, but police say Smith was dragged an estimated 1,600 feet and died from his injuries.
When taken into custody, Zuniga-Torres is expected to be charged with hit-and-run resulting in death.
Zuniga-Torres' last know address is 715 Center Street in West Columbia.
Police say he may also have ties to Florida and Honduras.
