A 19-year-old driver from Columbia was killed early Friday when his vehicle left the road in northern Richland County.
Coroner Gary Watts says William Rew was driving in the 2200 block of Longtown Road when his vehicle crashed into a tree. Watts says Rew died at the scene.
A second single-vehicle wreck has claimed the life of a 33-year-old man in Columbia.
Watts says the body Cesar Alas was found about 7:30 a.m. Saturday at a crash scene in the 4000 block of Clement Road near Broad River Road. But the coroner says it looks like the wreck occurred anywhere from eight to 20 hours before that.
Watts says the vehicle had veered off the road, hit a tree and then traveled down an embankment.
Alas was ejected and his body was found some distance away.
He says both mishaps appear to involve excessive speed.
