Columbia police are investigating the shooting death of a woman at the Holey Dough Cafe Bakery early Monday morning.
Police spokesman J.B. Crawford says they were called about a disturbance around 3:30 a.m. at the bakery at 93 Tommy Circle, off Beltline Boulevard.
“There was a female screaming,” Crawford says. “Very subsequently thereafter some shots were heard. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased white female.
“Upon retrieval of some video evidence, it appears that there were three males that had entered and then departed that location within a matter of seconds.”
Police say the woman saw a man with a weapon and tried to fend him off, and that's when shots were fired.
Crawford says investigators are reviewing surveillance video to try to identify the suspects in what they believe was a robbery.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identifies the woman killed as 33-year-old Kelly Hunnewell.
An autopsy shows she died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Police say Hunnewell was the mother of five children ranging from ages 5 to 13.
