The families of two men killed in a boat collision on Lake Murray three years ago are suing both drivers of the boats.
Matthew Howk of Columbia and Randall Carter of Irmo died after a jon boat and another vessel ran into each other the night of May 1st, 2010.
The State newspaper reports their mothers claim in a damages lawsuit that the boats were speeding, out of control and failed to yield to each other.
The drivers of the boats, Steven Miller of Irmo and David Porth of the Gilbert area, also have criminal charges pending. Both are charged with boating under the influence of alcohol, and authorities say Miller's vessel did not display the required night-time lighting.
The mothers of the victims contend their sons died because of carelessness and recklessness on the part of the boat drivers.
Court records show both drivers have denied responsibility for the death of Carter, but the newspaper reports no response has been filed regarding Howk's death.
