Narcotics officers arrested a 40-year-old Lexington County man on charges that he planted and maintained a plot of marijuana plants found near his home.
Sheriff's Major John Allard says officers seized 52 marijuana plants Tuesday with a combined street value of about $52,000.
They charged David Brown of Batesburg-Leesville with manufacturing marijuana and illegally possessing a controlled substance.
“NET officers went to Charles Town Road in order to investigate information that they had received concerning marijuana plants that were being grown in woods near Brown’s home,” Allard says. “Officers saw Brown tend to the marijuana plants in the woods.”
Allard says officers also found Brown was carrying 10 Xanax pills, a prescription medication that's used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.
Brown was released from the Lexington County Detention Center after he posted bail totaling $25,000.
