Columbia police have apprehended the first suspect named in connection with a shootout at the Colony Apartments in which a 4-year-old girl was wounded.
21-year-old Marcus Gantt was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon at a home on Lansing Circle.
Police say Gantt, a suspected gang member, was shooting at a passing car Monday in what's believed to be a rival gang incident.
A stray bullet went through the front door of a residence on Bailey Street and wounded 4-year-old Zahara Walker in the back as she was watching cartoons on TV in the living room.
Her mother says the child's liver and stomach were damaged. She has been removed from a ventilator and is expected to recover.
Gantt is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
He has a criminal record showing previous arrests on drug and weapons charges.
Police are still on the lookout for the silver Dodge Charger that Gantt's accused of shooting at.
