It's been a successful year for lottery games in our state – one of the best ever, according to officials with the South Carolina Education Lottery.
Spokeswoman Julie Huffman says the past fiscal year was the best for transferring money to education in seven years, with deposits to the state's Education Lottery Account amounting to $300-million.
“The lottery's really happy that we've been able to provide so much money for education for the state,” Huffman says. “Lottery proceeds have been able to provide over a million scholarships and grants, as well as over 540 school buses.”
Huffman says ticket sales for the fiscal year 2012-to-2013 have been the best on record, with high Powerball jackpots helping to drive sales, as well as facelifts to various scratch-off ticket games.
The state lottery launched a new partnership with NASCAR and the Darlington Raceway.
And players took home more than $775-million in prizes the past fiscal year, up $54-million compared to the prior year.
