Less than two weeks until South Carolina's annual “Sales Tax Holiday.”
During a three-day period from Friday, August 2nd, through Sunday the 4th, shoppers will not have to pay the 6-percent state sales tax – nor any local sales taxes – on a long list of back-to-school items, ranging from clothing to computers.
“It's estimated that shoppers save approximately $3-million over the course of the weekend,” says Samantha Cheek with the state Department of Revenue.
“And it's important that shoppers know that the sales tax holiday also benefits in-state businesses by urging taxpayers to do their back-to-school shopping in South Carolina.”
This will be the 14th year for the sales tax holiday and you can find a sample list of what items are exempt from sales tax – and which ones are not – at www.sctax.org.
