Authorities have arrested a man they say broke into three homes near Chapin, helped himself to food and alcoholic beverages, watched TV and even stayed overnight.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department says on Friday and Sunday, 23-year-old Zachary Trantham forced open doors at a home on Crystal Creek Circle and at two homes on R.B. Baker Drive.
Sheriff's Major John Allard says at one place, Trantham also conducted target practice – inside.
“Deputies determined that Trantham fired shots from his shotgun at beer cans that he had placed on a table in the home's dining room and also fired shots at one flashlight, one vase and one fish that was mounted on a mantel – creating numerous holes in walls inside the residence,” Allard says.
Trantham was arrested after one homeowner arrived to find his residence had been broken into and he says Trantham was sitting on his couch.
