Richland County authorities have arrested an armed robbery suspect and a teenager said to be his accomplice.
Late Monday evening, a woman was leaving work at the Walmart at 10050 Two Notch Road in Columbia when she was approached in the parking lot by a man with a gun.
Sheriff's Sergeant Curtis Wilson says 20-year-old Mason Gibbs demanded the woman's cell phone, work ID and keys and then fled.
“Observant witnesses who were in the area were able to describe this individual,” Wilson tells WVOC.
“A deputy who was on his way to the scene observed Gibbs running to a vehicle. Deputies were able to perform a traffic stop in which Gibbs fled out of the vehicle but were able to apprehend him and also his accomplice.”
17-year-old Janae Brabham, who's accused of driving the getaway car, is also charged with armed robbery.
Wilson says deputies recovered the items stolen from the victim, as well as the gun they believe was used during the crime.
