Victims in Midlands crimes were the focus of attention over the weekend.
A march to and rally at the Statehouse Saturday called for reform to the criminal justice system, including how suspects are given bond.
Speakers referred to the July 1st fatal shooting of 33-year-old bakery employee Kelly Hunnewell (pictured), where two of the three suspects arrested in her death had been released on bond while awaiting trial on other violent crimes.
State Attorney General Alan Wilson pointed out that the state constitution does not guarantee bond for repeat offenders who commit more crimes while out on bond for a previous offense.
And Lexington County State Representative Rick Quinn pledged to hold judges more accountable by checking their records on dealing with repeat offenders before lawmakers re-appoint judges.
