COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WVOC) - Unemployment in South Carolina was unchanged in July.
The state Department of Employment and Workforce says that last month's jobless rate was steady at 8.1%.
That's a more than a full percentage point lower than this time a year ago.
Non-farm payroll employment in South Carolina was nearly 1.9-million.
The department says that's this year's highest level and is 1,700 jobs higher than June.
Professional and business services jobs were up by 3,100 in July. The leisure and hospitality sector added 800 jobs.
National unemployment went down from 7.6% to 7.4% in July.
By county in South Carolina, Marion County had the highest or worst unemployment rate for July at 15.2%, while Lexington County had the lowest or best jobless rate at 6.2%.
