A man is in custody in connection with the armed robbery of two women who had gone to a bank in Richland County July 1st and were returning to their place of employment in the 7400 block of Fairfield Road.
Sheriff's Sergeant Curtis Wilson says 21-year-old Todd Cofield Jr. is also charged with attempted murder.
“We have two female victims who were on their way back to work at Mid-Carolina Steel, carrying some money,” Wilson explains.
“They were approached by two unknown suspects – one of them being Cofield – and they presented a gun, stole the money from the female victims and fired shots as they fled to a silver Mercedes.”
The women were not wounded and authorities are still searching for the second suspect.
Meanwhile, Wilson says Cofield later contacted 20-year-old Carlton Gregory to make arrangements to dispose of Colfield's Mercedes.
A tip led authorities to Gregory and he has also been charged with armed robbery.
