A Midlands man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to the murders of his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
53-year-old Roger Cochran had no adult criminal record and The State newspaper reports he had been described as a good worker at his welding job.
But in October 2007, he was upset that 50-year-old Vicki Marcus had broken off their relationship and that she was seeing someone else.
As Marcus and her new boyfriend, 52-year-old Gary Stone, were in bed watching TV at a mobile home in a campground along Lake Murray, Cochran used a pistol to shoot his ex-girlfriend twice and Stone four times – twice in the groin area.
Prosecutors say that shows the malice of the crime fueled by his jealousy and anger.
The defense presented an analysis by a forensic psychiatrist who stated that Cochran suffered from mental illness, depression and panic disorders, but he still knew the difference from right and wrong.
He expressed remorse in the courtroom at the Lexington County Judicial Center, telling the judge he regrets the pain he's caused and would undo it if he could.
Cochran was sentenced to two life prison terms, and he's not eligible for parole.
