Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton has released the name of a man who drowned while swimming in a creek in the Pomaria areas.
The coroner says 43-year-old Christian Pearson of Whitmire was with family members Saturday afternoon at the Heller's Creek Recreation Area when he waded into the water at the bridge on Broad River Road and began having trouble.
Relatives say Pearson slipped under the water and did not resurface.
Sheriff Lee Foster says divers found his body about three hours later.
Foster says Pearson drowned near pumps used for power generation and water levels can fluctuate in the area.
