Several events were held today in the Midlands in observance of the 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The city of Columbia held a memorial ceremony this morning at the Columbia Fire Department headquarters in remembrance of those lost during the attacks.
Fort Jackson conducted a wreath-laying ceremony which included an overview of the 9/11 events, a missing-persons display, a moment of silence and a 21-gun cannon salute.
The South Carolina State Museum in Columbia honored first responders with free general admission. In addition, the museum displayed an original beam from the World Trade Center and showed two commemorative 9/11 movies.
And there was a ceremony at the First Responders Memorial (pictured) next to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to honor the dedication of all first responders and military members from the Midlands.
That event also featured a roll call for fallen heroes and the unveiling of a fallen K-9 memorial.
