The remains of eight unclaimed veterans from Lexington were buried today at Fort Jackson.
The State newspaper reports the veterans' remains have been held at coroners' offices in Lexington and Greenville counties for up to two years, waiting for relatives to claim them.
Since no family members have come forward, the remains were buried as part of the Missing in America Project.
American Legion Posts in Chapin and Greenville assisted, and an Honor Guard from Fort Gordon provided full military honors.
The ceremony was held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
