A Lexington woman has been charged with abusing a 2-month-old girl she was caring for.
Lexington County Sheriff's Major John Allard says, “An arrest warrant alleges that on September 22nd, the 2-month-old girl was admitted as a patient at Children's Hospital at Palmetto Health Richland with great bodily injury, including a skull fracture.
“Medical personnel performed a skeletal survey and detected that the girl also had suffered 13 rib fractures and a fractured clavicle.”
Allard says the infant suffered the injuries between June 29th and September 22nd, and the abuse was reported to law enforcement after the girl received medical treatment at a Lexington Medical Center urgent-care facility.
She is expected to fully recover.
22-year-old Amberly Lomax is charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child – a felony that carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.
Allard says Lomax could not explain to detectives how the 2-month-old was injured repeatedly.
